This historic restoration involved the addition of a new front porch in harmony with an exiting 18th Century farmhouse which was moved to a beautiful hilltop site. With a clear and simple profile, the design also incorporates low voltage pin lighting in the ceiling of the porch which gives a crisp effect in the evening.
The client, a veteran art collector, also requested that a new swimming pool be sited on a slope adjacent to the home, but was reluctant to close in the deck with a traditional fence since it would obstruct the magnificent views. Our solution to the code requiring a fence enclosure around a pool was to manage the difficult drop in grade by creating a dry-laid stone wall which acts simultaneously as a security fence and retaining wall. The effect of the enclosure, terraced steps and patio from the house is both traditional in its use of stone and clean, modern and minimalist in form.
